Discovery Gardens Metro Station Overview
Discovery Gardens is the R71 station on the Dubai Metro Red Line, in Zone 3 on the Route 2020 branch. It sits between The Gardens (R70) and Al Furjan (R72), serving the themed apartment community of the same name, built by master developer Nakheel.
The station opened on 1 January 2021 with the first Route 2020 phase. To reach it from the city centre, board an Expo 2020 branded service at Centrepoint. A Life Pharmacy branded southbound service takes the other branch at National Paints and does not stop here.

Discovery Gardens Station opening hours and facilities
Discovery Gardens station keeps the standard RTA opening hours, the same right across the network:
- Monday to Thursday: 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM
- Friday: 5:00 AM to 1:00 AM
- Saturday: 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM
- Sunday: 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM
Discovery Gardens has the standard Dubai Metro facilities, confirmed in the official RTA passenger guide. The station is step-free, with lifts to all levels, tactile guidance paths, and dedicated wheelchair spaces on every train. Nol card machines and a ticket counter sit inside the concourse, alongside bilingual signage and information screens. Du Wi-Fi covers the network.
Every regular train carries three cabin types: Gold Class at one end, a Women and Children cabin with pink signage, and Standard cabins. Door pictograms on the platform show where each cabin stops. The station has at least one bus connection, dedicated Metro Police, CCTV throughout, and emergency call points on every platform and train.
The walk from the station to the Mediterranean, Mogul and Mediterranean clusters is longer than the map suggests, usually 10 to 15 minutes on foot depending on your building. For the Zen, Contemporary or Cactoos clusters further in, feeder buses run from the station and are the quicker option in summer or when you have shopping to carry.
Nakheel’s 26,000-apartment themed community
Discovery Gardens is the Metro stop for one of Dubai’s largest low-rise apartment communities. The master developer, Nakheel, built the project in six themed clusters including the Mediterranean cluster, which is set up with low-rise buildings drawing on Southern European architecture, and five others organised around further landscape motifs. The community has more than 26,000 apartments, overwhelmingly one and two bedroom flats, arranged across nearly 300 buildings. Discovery Gardens dates from the 2000s build-out of western Dubai, with the main cluster completions reported in 2008.
A later Nakheel announcement, reported by Gulf Business in 2017, set out a planned Jenan Heights expansion of 2,500 apartments across nine towers inside the Discovery Gardens perimeter. The station’s catchment is therefore large by Dubai standards even without the surrounding Al Furjan and Jebel Ali Village communities, which also use this stop and the next one down the branch.
A 1 January 2021 Route 2020 original
Discovery Gardens entered commercial service with the first wave of Route 2020 stations. Khaleej Times reported that the Red Line extension’s first four stations, including Discovery Gardens, opened on 1 January 2021 and connected the branch to the city centre with no change of train. The remaining branch stations, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai Investment Park and Expo 2020, followed later that year with Jumeirah Golf Estates tied to the Expo opening.
The Route 2020 interiors use the four-element design theme that runs the length of the branch; each station presents a variation on air, earth, fire or water as its interior motif. The exteriors follow four shell families drawn from the Red and Green Line Style, keeping the station recognisably part of the wider network even as the branch adds its own visual story.
Discovery Gardens works well as a park and ride for drivers coming in on Sheikh Zayed Road. Parking in the surrounding community lots is usually free but limits apply, so check posted signs. Boarding here northbound on an Expo 2020 service lets you avoid the Marina crush and the Downtown parking fees in one move.
Fares from Discovery Gardens Station
Fares depend on how many zones your trip crosses, not how many stations you pass. A Silver Nol card costs AED 3 within one zone, AED 5 across two zones, and AED 7.50 for three or more zones, per the RTA Nol fares page. A personal Blue Nol card pays the same as Silver. Gold Class costs double: AED 6, 10 or 15 across the same bands.
Without a Nol card, the Red ticket is a separate, higher tariff of AED 4, 6 or 8.50 by zone band, and the blank ticket costs AED 2 to buy. Children aged five and under travel free, and travel is free for People of Determination.
